EAUX CLAIRES 2021

Eaux Claires is a two-day, multi-stage music festival in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The festival is a family friendly event featuring live music, performance art, visual art, food, and more. The visionary musical endeavor was created and developed by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and The National’s Aaron Dressner with the goal of forming “experience and a village” rather than just a place to see bands perform. They also sought to create an experience devoid of common music festival pitfalls – loud music all the time, no breaks, and bad food. Eaux Claires spotlights a region of North America less likely to host a premier event, and it provides an opportunity for musicians of all genres to perform amongst artists of all mediums.Read More ...

  1. Notable Artists and Performances

Bon Iver and The National are regular staples for the music cooperative, which is often more than a good enough reason to buy tickets to any festival. Over the years they have featured a diverse array of artists by the likes of Paul Simon, Chance the Rapper, Spoon, Blind Boys of Alabama, Doomtree, and James Blake. Collaboration is a common occurrence at the event. Thus far there have been sets combining the Blind Boys of Alabama and the Lone Bellow, Amy Ray and Phil Cook, and Sufjan Stevens and The National.

Aside from hosting some of the best-curated festival lineups, Eaux Claires has become known for its creative identity as a whole. Ticket-holders are immediately absorbed into a visual and performance art experience upon their first step into the grounds. Impromptu art pieces are littered throughout Foster Farms providing an encompassing atmosphere when traveling between stages. In 2016, the festival introduced an art installation organ where musicians would play unannounced performances in-between regular sets. They also feature fun easter eggs for attendees – one year they hid art pieces scattered about that festival goers had to seek out.

    The Details

The Eaux Claires Music and Arts Festival runs from Friday to Saturday in the middle of the summer, usually in July. It takes place at Foster Farms in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, about ninety miles away from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport. There are a variety of local hotels nearby, but the festival also has its own temporary campground. Camping is based on a first come, first serve basis, and you must purchase a camping pass. All campsites are considered handicap accessible with restrooms, showers, and shuttles to and from the festival site. There are also shuttles running from local hotels for a small fee. Campfires are permitted granted they are contained within a stone or metal ring and are attended at all times (bonfires are not permitted).

The festival is a rain or shine event with sunglasses, sunscreen, bug spray, hats, comfy shoes, and water are encouraged. Outside food is heavily discouraged in order to promote their high-quality food vendors. Bring some snacks, but leave your coolers at home. ATMs are located all over the festival, but most vendors are able to accept credit and debit cards. Smoking is allowed with consideration to your neighbors.

Campsites have space for one parked car, but cars are asked to remain throughout the duration of the event unless there is an emergency. For those who are not staying locally, parking passes are available for purchase. Biking is not accommodated due to the narrow roads leading up the festival site.
