Whitesnake 2022

Formed in 1977, Whitesnake emerged as a music project of Deep Purple frontman, David Coverdale. After recording two solo albums, Coverdale turned his attention toward creating more widely accessible rock music. The band, though, didn’t really take off until 1984. Slide It In marked a milestone of change and growth for the band, as it made it into the U.S. Top 40 and eventually went double platinum.

Here on out, Whitesnake began to take on a more ‘80s polished sound. 1987 was soon released, in its self-titled year, and would come to be the band’s greatest mainstream success. Read More ...

    What’s Special About Whitesnake?

David Coverdale was only in his early 20’s when he joined Deep Purple as the lead singer. When the band fell apart, he was able to ramp up his position in the classic rock world, along with is own creativity, to form the fun and grooving Whitesnake. Their sound is often compared to Led Zeppelin or other rock bands who found success in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Yet, Whitesnake is the result of a musical artist who thoroughly loved the genre of his own generation.

In 2015, they fully embraced their role as a collective representation of ‘80s rock, metal, and blues. They released The Purple Album which contained re-recorded Deep Purple songs from the Coverdale era. The album reached number 18 on the UK Albums Chart and landed at 84 on the Billboard 200 album chart in the United States. in 2016, Whitesnake performed their The Greatest Hits tour as well. The band remains a shameless portal to another time where men feathered their hair and sleeves were optional on your denim jacket.
